The only reason we gained promotion back to the Premier last time was because Sullivan and Gold refused to allow a fire sale of our players and kept them in the Championship on Premiership wages. The current board are intent on decreasing wages and selling of the clubs major assets the players. We are about to return to the dark days. It could takes us another 20 years to return to the upper league, unless the directors change strategy or the owner sells the club. |

How stupid is this... When all these mercanaries leave why have we no chance of promotion? I bet my house that we get promoted this season no problem. |

That's the spirit. Lets throw in the towel before we even start why don't we. The players that are going are players that could not motivate themselves to win a few matches after getting themselves a cup medal. They are players that over the course of the season were part of the joint 2nd worst team in the league. They can do one. |

I think we all know most of the "Big6" will leave but we do not know who CH will bring in. Look at Paul Lambert and Neil Warnock - who did they bring in and who were in their squads? any big-time Charlies? No. Personally, I don't think we will get promotion this season BUT I will be more than happy watching CH impose his brand of football and watching the team/squad build and develop. But who knows? we might get promoted but in any way I will sit back and enjoy - starting at Pride Park. |

I agree 100% Lowdham. Imo It's going to be a tough, tough season at the minute I'm 50-50 as to weather we'll go up, but like you say I too am looking forward to seeing CH Impose his tactics and football on the squad. If we don't go up, I'm sure we will be up there or abouts all season, I just hope that the board don't jump the gun and sack CH If we dont go up. Give him another season, It's all about building a squad that will be ready to challenge In the Premier League. |

I dont expect to go up or challenge for the title like I have for the past couple of times we've been in this league, but if Hughton gets a team spirit together, full of players who want to play here and want to play for him... then we have every chance of going back up. It's gonna be tough though and needs supporters right behind it from Day 1.. not giving up the day pre-season training starts! |

I agree... i want the lot of them to go and i think we need a couple of seasons in the championship to balance things.. We have exciting young players like Butland, Mutch, Redmond, Valles, Asante etc why the hell would we want players who think they are better than they are and also don't want to play for us.. Once they got the cup they thought they would walk over teams for the last games of the season and how wrong they were.. I think we should sell foster, RJ, Ferg and Zigic and try and keep Dann Fads and Jerome and then build round them if we can hang onto them.. Look at the team we could have.. Butland/Doyle Carr... Davies.. Dann/Ridge.. Murphy/Ridge Redmond/Burke.....Gomis/Michel.... Mutch/Fahey...Fads/Beau King/Asante....Jerome/Rooney That should be strong enough to get us up even if we lose Dann and Jerome Get in 20-25 to clear the debt and then use prem payments to sort things out then develop the team under CH.. |

We DO have a chance, that is certain. But we're definitely not favourites, and I really wouldn't EXPECT to get promoted, if we did it would be a bonus and Chris Hughton would deserve a massive bonus, pay rise and contract. Realistically, reaching the play-offs is the best we could expect, and then it's a bit of a lottery out of the 4 teams so we could never EXPECT to win the playoffs. |

How is playoffs our main ambition? We should get automatic no problem, Currently we are in the top 2 based on squad and club. I dont see an issue gaining promotion again this year. |

I will have a bet with you mate **thumbup how do you think we can possibly even have a sniff of promotion if the bulk of our best players go  you honestly think a team can get back up by signing freebies that other clubs don't want any more....if we do not spend the money we get from this simmers transfers we have a snowballs in hell chance of finishing top half never mind promotion. |

Because there are some very good teams in this division and we haven't finished with the selling of our players yet, and with the issues with the owner it's likely we'll have very little to spend. |

You do realise that going on a Bosman doesn't mean that your team doesn't want you. I will point you to Sebastian Larson, did we not want him? In the most case a Bosman player has turned down a contract offer from his current employer. Use that thing between your ears will you. |

I couldn't agree more and TBH I have always enjoyed seasons in the Championship far more than the PL. I hope CH is given time to build a strong squad, whether he does that in his first season or if it takes a while so what? As long as the board don't starve him of all resources so we have a chance of competing and then keep faith if we get anywhere near to promotion - the play offs will be a fantastic achievement this season! 6th August - can't wait! |

I love the person who will bet their house on us getting PROMO!!! Unlike you `FOOTBALLISTAS`( great word eh! I`ve just made it up!!) I couldnt give a damm about what style of football or tactics we play, we must get back up that is all that matters. Even if we didnt have financial problems (which it seems we do!) any relegated club has massive monetary pressures!! I`ve been there in the 3rd div with 6K home crowds and getting hammered by Rotherham Chesterfield etc!! and just recently had great results in the prem, know which I prefer!! KRO |

I agree with you Des about the Prem being the place to be however I cant see us getting back there anytime soon. The championship is a very hard place to get out of. Remember we spent from 1984 through to 2002 out of the premier division in the football league. For the later part of that time we had owners who were very keen on getting us promoted and put money into the club. Failing to get promotion on many occasions. Just because since we came up via the play offs we have been a yoyo club doesn't mean we will continue to do so, especially at the moment when we have owners who are having to sell players to pay debts. I have a nasty feeling that we are in for a very nasty time. |

Burke wanted more at Cardiff and they told him to shove it, the sex offender is not half the player of Jerome who will be off, any decent player on a Bosman will be off to a prem side. Use that thing between your ears will you, freebies will not get a side promoted. |

A team will get the club promoted...not any individual or a group of individuals regardless of their cost. players are criticised for leaving the club..some of your posts leave me feeling the same. |

I have no idea if we have a chance of getting back up at the first attempt yet or not The signs are that players are going - as expected And that the players coming in are bosmans or frees Now for CH to ge us directly back up at the first attempt under those circumstances will be one hell of a tough job It wont make a blind bit of difefrence to me as i have seen far worse , However i worry that the new breed of supporter OR the people who believed that we had gone as far as we could under the previous manager and that the football that got us to 9th was too dull to watch - will not have the stomach for the fight I worry greatly that anything but a flying start with goals galore will result in crowds falling below 15k I will always be there irrespective - some i fear will not |

Still slagging off our new players before you've seen them play? Burke didn't want to renew his contract at Cardiff, the same as Seb here, they wanted to keep him but they was always the nearly team, they always pushed for promotion but fell away. Burke wants to play In the Prem like every player, so he moved to a bigger club. King will score goals In this division, he Is a goalscorer something that Jerome Isn't. King does exactly what he's paid to do, stick the ball In the back of the net, something we've been missing for a good few years. Gomis although I've never heard of him personally I'll give him a chance before I write him off. From what I've heard though he will add some bite to the middle of the park, and don't often lose the ball, which Is always a good thing. Rooney scored goals for fun In Scotland, although not the highest standards but again he obviously knows where the net Is, could turn out to be a great signing. All for the total of £0! Get behind them FGS! |

I think that we are overreacting a little here with regards to the squad. The last promotion was done on a net spend of £1m and that was Marcus Bent. Currently we have a negative spend but then the transfer window has only just opened and with a new manager in it will take some time to be able to get his targets lined up. I'm convinced that the board will give him some money albeit not multi millions. On top of that we have the loan market to use, which usually doesn't start rolling until the later stages of the transfer window. We have in the past relegation come backs used the loan market effectively. As soon as one of the big fees comes in we might see some spending. I do also believe that we have a strong squad for the championship without a few of the bigger players. This is not a pop at Jerome but if we sold him for £5-6 million would we miss his goals? Davies is good enough to fill the RJ/Dann hole and I think the midfield signings and younger players can tap that Gardner hole as well. It's actually a lot better than it could have been, and writing yourselves off before a ball is kicked is really stupid. |
